Sony Calls Outage, “A Great Experience.”

It only does Offline Earlier in April, Sony’s online content services, Playstation Network (PSN) and Qriocity, were attacked by a group of internet hackers which took 77 million accounts offline for as long as four weeks, and then an additional two weeks as the company scrambled to bring its services back online. Sony has confirmed that the outage cost them an estimated $171 million and, most importantly, the credibility in the eyes of loyal customers. better and yield better sales than ever. When asked by the interviewer what lessons has Sony learned from this catastrophe, Schaaf answered:

I think for people running network businesses, it’s not just about improving your security, because I’ve never talked to a security expert who said, “As long you do the following three things you’ll be fine, because hackers won’t get you…” The question is how do you build your life so you’re able to cope with those things. It’s been a great experience.

Surely, many others would not call such an outage a great experience, but, admittedly, Sony’s recovery has been quite a success, considering how the manner by which Sony handled the breach did exceed relatively low expectations. Internet security has been a hot topic of discussion with big fish like Sony and Amazon being compromised in April. These events put the Internet in a state of disarray, where users and companies alike have to rethink the importance of the safety and reliability of their services, and the proper security measures to take.
